Companies May Drop Employees' Health Insurance

According to Dr. Gottlieb, a former official at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the new healthcare reform legislation may, in fact, provide an incentive for companies to drop their employees' health insurance coverage. In public reports, large companies like AT&T, Caterpillar, and Verizon have done the math, and found that they would save a substantial amount of money (ranging from hundreds of millions to billions) if they paid the fines imposed by the legislation instead of continuing to foot the bill for their employees' coverage.

The White House issued a response to Dr. Gottlieb's assertions on their blog just a couple days ago. The blog insists that those who want to keep their insurance will be able to do so, but no explanation is offered for how that would be possible if their employer drops them without their consent.
