After a long battle, healthcare reform is passed and signed into law.

After a historic debate in Congress, landmark healthcare reform legislation has been passed by the House and signed into law by the president.

In a blog posted on the White House website, Dan Pfeiffer, White House Communications Director, offered the following statement:


"After more than a year of extensive debate, the House voted last night to pass the most significant health reform legislation this country has seen in decades.  It was a historic victory for the American people.  And now, millions of Americans - workers, families, seniors, small business owners - stand to benefit from lower health care costs, expanded coverage and tough consumer protections."

The legislation will have far-reaching effects for every American. Many argue that it is an arrogant expansion of government that will restrict our freedoms. Others respond that it was the right thing to do at the right time, and that it will improve access to care for the millions of currently uninsured Americans.
