What Are eCigs?
Have you been thinking about changing that bad habit, but you don't know how or where to start? Are you tired of people looking down on you when you hold a cigarette? Or, are you like millions of others who have tried to change, but discover that they’re not able to, simply because they fear missing the physical, oral sensation of having a cigarette in their mouth while driving, reveling, or talking on the phone?
If any of these circumstances can describe your aversion to quitting, then perhaps it’s time to consider investing in an electronic cigarette ( eCig) instead.
eCigs are Trending
eCigs are the hottest new developments to hit the market, due to their ability to mimic an actual cigarette's shape, size and function. They've been extremely popular with those who have been looking to cut-down their daily intake. Another plus, eCigs have little, if any odor that is commonly associated with a traditional smoke; so the eCig users that are "vaping" globally, are doing so with fewer frowns and disparaging looks from the non-smoking community.
eCig Types
Aside from “Vapes” and “Mods,” there are 2 types of electronic “cigarettes” in the marketplace. Typically, the two types listed below provide a natural transition from authentic cigarettes because they are portable, lightweight, discreet and affordable.
Online: Many, eCigs, like those that can be bought online such as Power E-cigs and Smoke Star, are comprised of a battery and a cartridge; meaning their battery can be recharged and their cartridge(s) can be replaced, or refilled. Cartridge’s come in a variety of nicotine levels. Another bonus to purchasing an online eCig for yourself is the variety and bevy of flavors offered, from the tropical to the traditional. Online purchases are a more financially reasonable option for the regular smoker.
Store Bought: Disposable and ideal for the infrequent, non-regular smoker. No online orders to place, no recharging of batteries, or replacement of cartridges. It is a grab and go purchase, typically found at convenient stores or gas stations. The downside: you are limited in choice when it comes to flavors and nicotine strengths, and are at the mercy of the supplier and store.
The benefit to either option, if you truly are looking to change, is not to consume anymore cartridges when they're complete, or buy any more disposables after their batteries have drained. Also, when purchasing either option, it's important to remember that if you're truly wanting to lower your nicotine consumption, any cartridge that has a 1.8% tobacco level or higher, is equivalent to one real cigarette.
Full disclosure: it should be noted that eCigs have not been fully studied by the FDA, so consumers do not currently know:
- The potential risks of eCigs when used as intended.
- How much nicotine or other potentially harmful chemicals are being inhaled during use, or if there are any benefits associated with using these products.
- Additionally, it is not known if e-cigarettes may lead young people to try other tobacco products, including conventional cigarettes, which are known to cause disease and lead to premature death.
