Number of Uninsured Rising

According to a recent study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the number of uninsured Americans is projected to increase to 66 million from the current 47 million within the next decade. Such a dire prediction underscores the need for healthcare reform. The worst case scenario is one which involves continued dramatic increases in healthcare costs, especially for businesses who provide coverage for their employees. This, of course, will have a trickle-down effect; when businesses must choose between staying profitable and covering their employees, individuals will begin to bear the brunt of the crisis. The report's conclusion: It is "clear that the biggest effects of not having health reform would be felt by families with moderate incomes, who have less access to public coverage."
